The Testament of Ann Lee
Set in 18th-century England, Ann Lee explores the radical origins of the Shaker Movement through the life of its founder — a woman revered by her followers as the “female Christ.” Inspired by real events, the film traces Lee’s controversial spiritual rise as she establishes a utopian society devoted to ecstatic worship through song and dance. Described as an epic fable, the film blends historical drama with visionary storytelling, led by Amanda Seyfried in the title role. The ensemble cast brings together some of the most distinctive voices in contemporary independent cinema. ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ had its premiere during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival followed by a screening at the TIFF 50.
