Orphan
Set in Budapest, 1957, in the aftermath of the failed uprising against Hungary’s Communist regime, Orphan tells the story of Andor, a young Jewish boy raised by his mother on heroic myths about his father, believed to have died in the war. His carefully constructed world unravels when a brutish man suddenly enters their lives — claiming to be his real father. As the boy confronts his mother’s hidden past and the truth about her survival during World War II, he must grapple with feelings of betrayal, identity, and rage. ‘Orphan’ had its premiere during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival followed by a screening at the TIFF 50.
